‘Twas the Day Before Christmas: UC Edition

‘Twas the day before Christmas when St. Nick flew across town,
And over our office, he took a look down.

Through the window he saw us losing composure,
Hoping our workday soon would be over.

through the window he saw us losing composure

Employees were staring straight into their screens,
Typing away like cold-blooded machines.

Wearing jackets and ties, blouses and trousers,
They were falling asleep in front of their browsers.

When from my computer arose such a ping,
I sprang from my desk to see what made it sing.

From one app to another I clicked like a flash,
Grateful my internet was loading so fast.

Checking my inbox all nervous and stressed,
Side-eyeing my boss to see if she was distressed.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a new application that had never been here.

That jolly old man, so techy and quick,
Had added an icon with a flick of his wrist.

What I saw was thrilling, I had to exclaim.
So I whistled, and shouted and called friends by name:

“Hey, Jason! Hey, Becky!
Hey, Sara and Kristin!
Call Lisa! Call Jackie!
Call Frankie and Meaghin!
To the conference room!
Hurry down the hall!
Come quickly! Come quickly!
Come quickly, all!”

As we piled around the meeting room table,
We wondered what this new tool would enable.
Anxious whispers traveled from person to person,
Could our situation possibly worsen?

as we piled around the meeting room table

And then, in a twinkling, we heard on the roof,
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

The overhead projector flickered to life,
And there was St. Nicholas, covered in ice.

He smiled and chuckled at our outward surprise,
The skin wrinkled at the corners of his eyes.

“It’s been tragic and downright despicable
To see you all so downtrodden and miserable.

So I’ve come to deliver a great gift, you see.
Unified communications — I call it UC.

Now with desktop and mobile applications,
You can abandon your office-bound stations.

With team messaging, file sharing and meeting,
Collab with ease, no need for cubicle seating.

Download the app to any laptop or cell phone,
And take every call from your very own home.

No longer shackled to the office every day of the week,
I bring you this gift to make your lives less bleak.”

no longer shackled to the office every day of the week

With a wink of his eye and jingle of a bell,
We were whisked away home, as if under a spell.

Surrounded by family, cuddled up on the couch,
Next to Fido, my children and also my spouse.

I could spend more time where it truly mattered,
While keeping my spot on the corporate ladder.

Now we all feel recognized, seen and respected,
Our work-life balance positively affected.

For business success, communication is key.
And being at home fills employees with glee.

These new UC tools will bring year-round delight.
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
